Saturday 31st July 2010 From Convoyers Report "Saturday dawned with clear blue skies and no wind at all and with the sun rising at about 05:45 the decision was made to liberate at 06:00. With the clear conditions the birds climbed high in the sky before heading north in two batches. The journey back was clear, very hot and all the wind turbines from Bordeaux to Tours were completely stationary so it was obvious that it was going to be a stiff race with the heat and lack of wind. The wind began to pick up north of Le Mans and as it was coming from the south west, the clouds began to build. By the time we reached Caen there was full cloud cover and it was remarkably cooler."

UPDATED SATURDAY 31st JULY AT 08:30.
To start the day generally a cloudy picture with some isolated showers for most of England but conditions should improve from the west as the morning moves on. A weak front consisting of mainly cloud and some patchy light drizzle has been located moving from west to east along the channel. By midday day conditions will have improved as the poor weather moves away eastwards with sunny intervals developing clearing the flight path for pigeons crossing the channel from France. The weather over southern and central France is excellent with the sun shining affording the BBC pigeons a good start but northern France will see cloudier conditions. Winds over central France are variable but a light westerly or south westerly will become available from Northern France across the channel to England.
Channel Weather : Occasional rain and drizzle, clearing later this morning with some sunny periods developing this afternoon. Max : 21 °C
Visibility : Moderate to very poor becoming good. Wind : Southwest soon veering west light F3 to moderate F4.
Winds light and variable over central France but changing to south westerly over northern France
