Saturday Morning (12th June 2010)

Good news the birds in the Poitiers National have been liberated at 0830 in blue skies and a light Southerly wind turning Northerly on route. Please do not forget to verify your first pigeon within 60 minutes after veryfying you will be asked to press the 1 button on your phone and you will be given a four digit number which should be recorded on the top right hand corner of your verification paper. I will update this line as soon as possible this evening with the provisional early times. Good Luck.
Steve Appleby's Weather for Pigeon Fanciers

UPDATED SATURDAY 12th JUNE AT 09:00 HOURS.

Cloud carrying drizzle and patchy rain moved up from the south of France over night and was positioned over the Alencon area very early this morning. This was confirmed but the MNFC convoyer at Alencon at 06:15 hours.  Examining the rainfall images showed the location of this poor weather over central northern France early this morning. (See image captured at 06:00 below) Fortunately due to rising pressure this offending cloud is dissipating gradually clearing the flight path through France to the northern coast line. By 08:00 hours conditions improved as the drizzle had petered out leaving cloud cover only.  The channel is clear and visibility 15 miles plus. Winds are light over land generally from the north but stronger over the open sea at force 2 to 3 about 14 mph gusting sometimes up to 20 mph. As we are aware the pigeons will have to work against the head winds.  Winds over England will have a slight north westerly influence and temperatures will reach maximums of 21 C, pleasantly warm. So to conclude weather conditions over France will improve with the emphasis on the longer convoyers wait before liberating the better the race, even so due to the head winds racing not that easy.
Winds light and variable over central France changing to northerly over northern France. They are quite fresh over the channel gusting occaisionally to 20 mph.
